Cocktail lovers in the capital are in for a treat this week as more than 200 bars, restuarants and shops across the city are hosting events for London Cocktail Week (LCW). Running from today until Sunday, LCW is centred around a ‘cocktail village’ (that’s our kind of village!) in Old Spitalfields Market, with passes for the week costing £10. Whether you’re into whisky or gin, vodka or vermouth, there’ll be plenty of concoctions to keep your thirst quenched. Here’s our guide to a week of heavy drinking…
The Buffalo Bourbon Empire returns to LCW with Hackney House hosting an evening of whiskey-fuelled cocktails. Either sit back and up up or take part in a series of masterclasses. The pop-up is open everyday this week. Opening hours are 5.30pm – 11.30pm.
Take a tour of the tucked away Beefeater Distillery in Kennington. This the place where the famous gin has been distilled to a virtually unchanged recipe since the 1800s. The guided tours, which are open to LCW pass holders for £5, that take in the original Victorian pot stills and botanical room and are rounded off with a free gin cocktail. The tours run during the day from Monday to Saturday.
The team behind Athens bar The Clumsies are bringing their cocktails to Shoerditch’s Callooh Callay from Wednesday to Sunday. The Clumsies’ experimental cocktail menu includes Celtic Forest, which mixes Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve whisky with basil, chartreuse green, honey and lemon, and Rhubarb Sour, which is made up of Tanqueray gin, pickled rhubarb and mustards seeds.
Running from Tuesday to Thursday, Bar Cocchi in Hoxton is hosting Negroni masterclasses. Discover the origins and evolution of this classic Italian cocktail, and sample a few while you’re at it.
On Friday and Saturday afternoons, the Sailor Jerry Tattoo Shop is hosting an LCW pop-up. Visitors will sample Sailor Jerry Ginger Colada cocktails and LCW passholders will be able to get a free tattoo. Alcohol and tattoos – what could possibly go wrong?
It’s the last day to enjoy tutored Talisker tastings at The Whisky Shop in Piccadilly. A must for Scotch lovers.
Round off your LCW by hitting the Southern Comfort Chicken Trail – a tour of some of London’s best southern-style bars and restaurants. Carefully matched cocktails and food, including fried chicken, will be on offer at venues including Ninth Ward, Barnyard, and Bodean’s.
