After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the late 1990s, swimmer Stephanie Millward believed her Olympic dream was over.
Working through her symptoms — including blindness — she went on to win four silver medals and a bronze at the 2012 London Paralympics and a gold medal in Rio.
Millward’s fitness tips:
1. Be self-assured
‘Believe in yourself because you can do anything. Make sure that whatever you’re aiming for, you set achievable goals. I love having goals because it feels you’re fighting for something every day.’
2. Have fun
‘Enjoy the experiences you get from exercise. Always have a smile on your face through the hard work.’
3. Everything is possible
‘No matter what condition you have, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. Never put a limit to what you can do.’
