Jonathan Tisch brings a slice of New York to London for Loews Regency Power Breakfast

Jonathan Tisch gave the term power breakfast another meaning on Friday as he brought a taste of New York’s bustling breakfast scene to London for the day. To do this, the Loews hotel chairman gathered the capital’s movers and shakers at the Connaught for some early morning networking.

As guests including the BBC’s Nick Robinson, Lord Adonis and Mail on Sunday editor Geordie Greig mingled over berry smoothies, Women’s Equality Party founder Catherine Mayer caught up with Miss Steerpike about her party’s progress in the local elections. ‘I’m here trying to explain to all these guests how significant the votes we received were,’ Mayer explained. ‘Our party leader Sophie Walker very narrowly missed out on a London Assembly seat — in part because the Conservatives did less well than expected — but the thousands of votes she did receive shows that we have momentum going forward.’

As guests sat down to a breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs in the Hélène Darroze restaurant, Tisch entertained diners with tales of his ‘true Jewish mother’ back in NYC. His mother — who was 85-years-old at the time — was less than impressed when Tisch informed her that she would need to move out of the family’s Loews Regency New York hotel for a year while renovations took place. ‘We decided we were going to close the hotel to get the renovations done in time,’ he said. ‘She looks at me and she says: can I fire you?’

With breakfast over, Sky’s Adam Boulton confided to Miss S that he was yet to catch an episode of Robert Peston’s new Sunday morning show. ‘I’m terribly disloyal, but because I did a morning show for nearly two decades as soon as Murnaghan took over that slot I stopped watching any,’ he confessed. ‘I do try and at least catch up on them later.’
